Aluminium sliding windows and doors HS / HST
Large terrace glazing that opens with a light turn of the handle and takes up no room in your living space. We quote from your plans - no site visit needed.
How HS lift-and-slide doors work
HS stands for the German Hebe-Schiebe, meaning "lift and slide". Turning the handle raises the sash onto running carriages, so even a heavy pane of glass glides easily along the track. When closed, the handle lowers the sash and presses it against the seals. The result is a wide opening combined with a level of airtightness that ordinary sliding doors cannot match.
The market uses the designations HS and HST for the same family of lift-and-slide solutions. System manufacturers distinguish between the two names in different ways, for example by threshold construction or profile depth. That is why our quotes always specify the exact aluminium system rather than just the name HS or HST.
What to consider at the design stage
- Threshold. A low threshold recessed into the floor gives a seamless step out to the terrace, but the screed and drainage must be prepared before installation. This is a design-stage decision, not a finishing detail.
- Sash layout. From two panels (one sliding sash, one fixed) to multi-panel layouts with several sliding sashes and corner solutions. The layout affects the price more than the width of the opening itself.
- Sash weight and size. Large panes of glass are heavy. The system must be matched to the weight of the sash, and transport and installation may require a crane or a vacuum lifter.
- Lintel and structure. A wide opening needs a lintel that does not deflect under load - your structural engineer should account for this in the design.
- Warm installation. With large glazed areas, the quality of installation (tapes, insulation, threshold support) determines airtightness just as much as the system itself.
What determines the price of HS sliding doors
The price depends chiefly on: the dimensions and number of sliding sashes, the system series, the glazing package (double or triple glazing, safety or acoustic glass), the colour of the profiles (RAL palette, two-tone, anodising), extras (soft-close with braking, electric drive, multi-point locks) and the scope of installation and transport.
Systems in our range
We present sliding doors with a concealed frame in the LUMIKS collection, and glazing with the frame hidden in the walls in the MOREVIEW collection.
Questions about HS / HST sliding doors
How is HS different from ordinary sliding doors?
In HS doors the sash lowers and presses against the seals when you close it, so airtightness is close to that of a casement window. In a simple sliding door the sash rolls along the rail all the time and the sealing is weaker.
Is it possible to have sliding doors without a threshold?
Many systems allow the threshold to be set flush with the floor. It has to be planned before the screed is laid, though, because it needs a suitable recess and drainage. That is why it is worth sending your plans for a quote before any flooring work begins.
How long does it take to deliver sliding doors?
The lead time depends on the system, the colour and the size of the order. We state it in the quote.
Do I need a site survey to get a quote?
No. For a new build we quote from the dimensions in your plans. A verification survey is carried out before production.
